In its famous Bostock ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act – which expressly protects against discrimination ‘because of sex’ - also protects against discrimination by an employer based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
The Bostock ruling is considered an important victory for LGBTQI+ equality in the workplace and one of the court rulings in which legal methods of interpretation take center stage.
The lecture will provide insight into this vital judgement and its legal consequences and explore possible implications for European anti-discrimination law.
